Legislation to further enhance Montana’s captive insurance statute is expected to be signed by the governor in the coming weeks now that it has passed the House and Senate by near unanimous votes.

The legislation would allow for the formation of incorporated cell captives and special purpose captives while making other general improvements to the current captive statute.

“We are obviously very excited that the association’s legislative initiative has been so successful and look forward to the governor’s signature,” said Brenda Olson, chair of MCIA’s board of directors. “Our members’ input and support were key in helping MCIA bring these exciting options to Montana’s captive insurance industry.”

A detailed legislative update will be provided at the association’s Spring Summit, scheduled for March 29-30 in Helena, MT, as well as at MCIA’s Annual Conference, scheduled for July 12-14 in Whitefish, MT. See www.mtcaptives.org.
