We have reported previously that if Congress creates a new public plan as part of national insurance exchange; this will eventually destroy the private employment-based health care marketplace.

Some Democratic members of Congress say this is not their intent, but others are more candid about the end game. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) was recently caught on video stating very explicitly that Congress will try to replace the private health insurance market through a health care plan provided by the federal government.

We hope this gets your attention if you’re not already engaged in the health care reform debate. SIIA has been aggressively educating members of Congress about the importance of the employment based health care system and self-insurance. Some progress is being made, but we need you to ensure we have the financial resources necessary to save the self-insurance industry from this very real threat.
