CMS Report Predicts Harmful Consequences of House Health Bill
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a sub-agency of the Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), released a report showing numerous harmful consequences if the House’s bill were to be enacted. The report estimates:
- National health spending would increase by $289 billion over 10 years
- A minimum of 12 million Americans would lose employer-sponsored coverage
- 8.5 million Medicare beneficiaries would lose their existing private coverage
- Low reimbursement rates would result in a lack of participating providers – leaving millions of “newly insured” without actual access to healthcare services
